Browsing the Halloween aisles last season I ran into the most adorable Pet Ghosts in a jar.
Of course I decided to run home and create my own DIY version with craft supplies I had on hand. It was such fun to make I thought I'd make mini simpler (but edible) candy versions to give to my favorite little trick or treaters this year.
You'll need
Candy corn or other small treats
mini graham cracker pie crust
meltable chocolate
Clear plastic cups in appropriate size
Printable labels
embellishments
Melt chocolate according to directions. I used light cocoa but orange or yellow would be fun too.
Spoon into crusts and insert ghosts (Be sure they are standing up straight) and add extra candies of your choice. Let cool and harden completely
top with a plastic cup (these can be taped on if transporting) and add label if desired
Or top with a bat ring and bead for an impromptu handle if age appropriate. Fancy shaped cups would be or cups with patterns could be fun too.
A reader also suggested using chocolate pudding or pie filling in place of the melted chocolate and popping in ghosts before serving (refrigerating ghost peeps can harden them)

DeleteSo sorry -I'm afraid I can't remember what brand- I did buy them at Giant supermarket if that helps- they were the small drink cups- another option would be to get the larger cups and trim them down- just be careful of sharp edges. DeleteThis is really cute. We are having a "bat" themed party for my son so I was thinking of using the Bat Peeps. Also I am having the kids do this as a craft so I will use chocolate pudding instead of melted chocolate. Hopefully it works well enough even though it won't harden.

DeleteHow fun! I wouldn't make them too far in advance as the peeps might get stale once you open them but if they're covered, I'd imagine the day before- Let me know how they turn out :)

ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I think as long as it's thick enough to hold the ghost peep upright it should work - and probably easier to eat- Thanks! I may try that this year :)
DeleteMaybe use chocolate to hold the ghost in place then put the pie filling around that. Best of two ideas.

I used chocolate pudding, it was delicious but I didn't refrigerate because I didnt want the peep to get hard, but then the pudding ended up melting, in the long run it was ok, my family preferred the pudding. I plan to try the chocolate but with adding some peanut butter

I was going to try to do the pudding but follow instructions making it for a pie filling- I think that's a bit thicker and adding the peep last after it set but I could not find any peep ghosts anywhere- and now the stores have Christmas out LOL! I'll let you know if I come up with anything :)

DeleteMade these with a group of middle schoolers and they loved them. I used pudding and also Reese's ghosts since I couldn't find the peeps. We used black frosting and toothpicks to make eyes/mouth. I told them the candy inside was was food for the ghost so we used al sorts of sprinkles and candy. So much fun!
